چکیده
Elastic micromechanical fields are tracked for a nickel-based superalloy polycrystal via high energy X-ray diffraction microscopy (HEDM) and corresponding intragranular deformation metrics determined with peak broadening analysis during cyclic temperature loading. A low solvus, refractory (LSHR) sample 252 grains was subjected to uniaxial tension held under fixed displacement while thermally cycling between 460 °C 770 intermittent HEDM characterization study the grain average response thermo-mechanical deformation. Elevated temperatures were found allow heterogeneous amounts of recovery amongst distinct within sampled region, indicating complex interactions; extent greater at higher temperatures.

High resolution 3D x-ray diffraction microscopy.
We have imaged a 2D buried Ni nanostructure at 8 nm resolution using coherent x-ray diffraction and the oversampling phasing method. By employing a 3D imaging reconstruction algorithm, for the first time we have experimentally determined the 3D structure of a noncrystalline nanostructured material at 50 nm resolution. The 2D and 3D imaging resolution is currently limited by the exposure time an...

X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) has long been used to determine the atomic-scale structure of materials. This technique is based on the fact that the wavelength of X-rays is comparable to the distances between atoms in condensed matter. When a material exhibiting a long-range (i.e. at least micrometers), periodic atomic order, such as a crystal, is irradiated with X-rays it acts as an extended, well-de...

The realisation of employing Additive Layer Manufacturing (ALM) technologies to produce components in the aerospace industry is significantly increasing. This can be attributed to their ability to offer the near-net shape fabrication of fully dense components with a high potential for geometrical optimisation, all of which contribute to subsequent reductions in material wastage and component we...

A tetrahedral-anvil press has been developed that permits x-ray diffraction powder measurements at pressures to 75 kb and temperatures to 1000°C. A counting technique, rather than photographic film, is used for x-ray detection. Sample tetrahedra of compressed LiH, boron, and boron-filled plastic are used in place of the pyrophyllite customarily used for this purpose. Two possible entrance pupil...
